I will work on this whenever I get the time, but these are more or less brief histories on various characters. (with a little on what they're thinking.) Most of this will be stuff you can read in the comic-- some of it is not. Starts with the four original passengers of the Vagabond Queen and moves on from there. (Eventually, I plan on putting pictures up of the characters in each post, but I haven't got time right now. )

REDRed has led a fairly normal life for a member of the Caligulan royal family. Having never thought he could ever be in line for the throne, Red went into medical school in secondary school-- due in part to a rather traumatizing incident between himself and his brother Blue when they were children. (He attempted to teach Blue how to swim by shoving him into the lake on the palace grounds-- Blue nearly drowned.) The other reason he entered medicine is because he can get paid for using pointy objects on people. ;D After Silver murdered the rest of the family, Red took charge of his younger siblings and considers his responsiblity to them to be that of a father. He burns inside from the horror of what happened to his family, and for a long time kept himself aloof from people he didn't know very well. However, something about Rose made him realize he wasn't alone and there was someone he could relate to, and she is now very much his other half. First appearance: Page 2, Fall to Earth

BLUEBlue grew up believing that his father hated him for being 2nd Kind. The impression was certainly helped everytime his father attempted to "lose" him in public places, and eventually Blue got into the habit of stealing his father's wallet in order to have some "collateral" his father would have to come back for. Blue cannot swim, due to aforementioned incident with Red. As a young boy he often left the palace grounds to play with kids his own age who weren't related to him and who didn't think he was staining the name of their family. His best friend at this time was Synn, who he never introduced to his family members because he wasn't supposed to be leaving the grounds. When Blue left at the age of fourteen to get away from his overbearing and disdainful family (but not without first being told by his mother to remember to wash his ears, darnit) he was accompanied by Synn. They arrived at a city called Casta Bay, where Blue met Vanessa, who introduced him to various substances, dated her for a while, then turned her in, after Synn apparently died. Blue blamed himself for the "death," however it was orchestrated by Vanessa out of jealousy. (Synn and Blue's relationship had become a bit... blurrier after arriving at Casta Bay.) Somewhere in the middle of this Blue woke one morning to find he now had a dragon tattoo on his left thigh, and he still can't remember for the life of him how it got there. After wandering around Caligula for a while, seeking comfort in places he should not have, (one place being the arms of a musician named Melodie Kate, after which the tabloids chased him for a while) Blue found himself at Shangri, where he met Sabre and was "adopted" into the temple for a while, where he learned the way of Nijai and became bloodkin to Sabre. After several graphic visions of his birth family being murdered in their sleep, Blue returned home in hopes of rescuing them before the event. He attempted to warn his parents, however his father couldn't believe his son had further stained his name by joining a "cult" and refused to listen. He woke to the sounds of gunshots one night and managed to be just fast enough to save his siblings' lives. While traveling the stars, Blue continued to try and bury his grief by being ultra gregarious. He did not have a very high self-esteem at this point in his life, and his condition wasn't helped by several incidents in which he was treated more or less like property, even if only for one night. (Ebony Black tie-in.) He was attacked and brutilized by Daimon when the Vagabond Queen arrived at the Dark Forces world Hedise, an incident he keeps the details of closely gaurded. The only people who know the full scope of this attack beyond Daimon and himself are Red, who stitched him up (so to speak) and comforted him in the immidiate aftermath, Shi Shi, who memtwisted him shortly afterwards when he visited Myrania, and Sapphire, his unofficial therapist. X3 Blue has been watched dispassionately his entire life by the metaphysical being X'zabre, who uses him as her "game piece" in her rivalry against Epsilon, another of her kind. GREENGreen and Blue have the most normal relationship out of the entire family, which is strange when one considers that Blue doesn't tend to have normal relationships and Green simply isn't normal. Green led a fairly normal life before Silver murdered the rest of the family, however he seems to have gone slightly insane from the sheer boredom of a comfortable life. Not the sort to rebel in ways that would get him into serious trouble, Green turned to art. (Like quite a few middle class teenagers in the U.S.) Quirky and in his own way brilliant, Green navigated for most of the trip on the Vagabond Queen, and he's become quite fond of video games as a result. Due to experiences endured both on the trip and directly beforehand when escaping Caligula, Green has developed a slight sadistic streak and occasionally comes across a little coldly, although he also tends to use humor to cover up the way he feels-- resulting in his coming across as completely spastic. Green was often treated as the "baby" of the boys, despite his sister being younger than he, and thus is open and friendly most of the time, having been somewhat coddled. Green is partial to redheads, cheese, and geeks. Dex is the best friend he's made in years, and since it's always been difficult for him to hold on to friends even before leaving his homeworld, thanks to having been upper class and having to deal with having a 2nd kind brother, he tends to be protective of the friends he's made on Earth. (This includes Lette, and although he had a slight crush on her for a while there he's glad even to be friends with her.) First appearance: Page 2, Fall to Earth

WHITEYI will start Whitey's entry off by pointing out that Caligulans attach nothing signifigant to skin color, and that even though it's an unusual name, it's not unheard of. Whitey, being the youngest of the four to escape Silver's murder of the family, is in some ways the most sensitive about the subject. She had a mostly normal childhood before this, however barely knew her brother Blue because he was gone for four years of her early life. Due to this the two of them sometimes find themselves in a conflict neither understands entirely, Blue remembering his sister both fondly as a tiny girl and as the girl she's grown into, but seeing nothing in between and not entirely understanding her, and Whitey going through her childhood almost idolizing that brother who was never there. She was often teased about him, since Blue is both 2nd Kind and at the time was considered a runaway. They got to know each other a little better while in space, Blue showing his sister what he knew about engines and machinery, as well as some martial arts. (Mostly knowledge picked up while wandering Caligula.) Whitey craves closeness to other people, particularly her family, since she hasn't entirely gotten over the death of her parents and all of her cousins, aunts and uncles, and even gets a little angry at Blue for having things about himself that she doesn't know. ROSERose is technically the oldest sibling of the Wolf family, although only older than Memphis, her twin, by several minutes. The two of them were named after the book Memphis Rose, which was written by some guy named Faulkner. X3 (And which I have not read, but that IS where Memphis's name came from.) Rose led a normal childhood until her mother died under mysterious circumstances, (and my timeline is fuzzy here, I'll clamp it down later) after which she found herself the "woman of the house." She and Memphis found themselves not only taking care of little sister Violet but looking after their father as he spun haphazardly into depression, and due to this Rose is used to, and rather good at, having to take charge of messy situations. Rose's father taught all of his children at least some rudimentary martial arts-- it helps that Rose seems to be stronger than the average woman, although it could be just from her lack of timidity. The household often suffered from the instability that comes with being afraid that the only adult can't take care of things and might end up either in the hospital or arrested for negligence at any moment. As soon as she turned sixteen, Rose began looking into jobs, alongside her brother, who took a job at their father's dojo. Most of these ended up in the service industry. For a long time Rose has dreamed of acting in a film, although how far or near to the idea she is, is debatable. Like Red, Rose felt a connection the first time they met, although she was a little put off at first by his grabbing her arm to inspect how muscular it is. Despite any first impressions, she loves him anyway, because he's comforting as well as entertaining, the comfort he offers hardly having to do with his muscular physique (although muscles are a nice bonus in Rose's book. X3) First appearance: Page 4, Fall to Earth

MEMPHISBeing her twin, Memphis's life is fairly entertwined with that of Rose. Where Rose often took care of Violet (Violet needing the advice that can only be offered by women to women in some cases) Memphis often took care of their father. This division of duties is not as clear cut as I make it sound, although it did prevent him from leaving the town of Santon when his sisters did. Memphis learned early on that if he teaches his fight classes bare-chested and smiles a lot, he gets a high attendance of female students. Although there aren't any women he's currently interested in (he'd prefer someone who understands him better instead of just being giddy over his smile) he tends to have a soft spot for females and is very genial towards them, although he does not consider himself a ladies man. Memphis more or less grew up in his father's dojo, helping out and hanging out even before their mother died, and so he tends to have more finely tuned skills than his sisters. Memphis and Rose keep close contact using whatever means possible-- they keep one another on speed dial. VIOLETViolet, having had to deal with the absence of her mother for much of her life and a father practically dying from grief, looks up to her older siblings almost as parents. She is protective of them and wary of adults she doesn't know very well, so it took some doing on Red's part for her to warm up to him. Whitey, on the other hand, became thick as theives with her in a matter of moments. This is a phenomenon recorded in many young females and will not be gone into here. Aside from pushing people away, Violet developed a "tough guy" persona to prove to the world that she didn't need any pity, thank you, nor did she need any comfort she didn't ask for. LETTEI'll admit it here: Lette is one of my favorite characters, which is funny considering she's the "baby" of the cast in terms of how long she's been around. Lette (which is short for "Colette," but she finds the name doesn't fit her very well) is the youngest of three-- she's so much younger than her older brother and sister, in fact, that her sister has a son slightly older than Lette. (Once again, fuzzy timeline.) Lette's parents divorced when she was a young girl for "irreconcilable differences" (and I KNOW I spelled that wrong)-- Marienne, Lette's mother, felt too much like she was competing with her husband's work and had had enough. Thus Lette grew up without really knowing her father, although her siblings maintained a close relationship with both her parents and herself. (This resulted in her being much better educated in old eighties cartoons than most of her peers.) Marienne married again, to a man who considered Lette "baggage" from a previous marriage and who went behind Marienne's back to let Lette know how he saw her. Lette finally ran away from this verbal abuse, to her sister, and began a long fandom love affair with anime while there, thanks to her nephew. She cut her hair and first began to call herself "Lette." After returning home to her mother, who had finalized a second divorce with only a few regrets, Lette made an effort to be more outgoing, although she found that most of the guys she went to school with were annoying and overbearing and decided to skip out on dating. She took fight classes to be more like her favorite male anime character (you guys know who I'm talking about... X3) and discovered that tennis is a great way to cool down for her after physical combat. The year Lette turned fifteen she spent the summer at her father's military facility, where she met Bea and Aren, the nastly little extraterrestrial being kept in the basement. X3 Lette continues to keep in contact with Bea online. She also met Casey online, and after meeting her at several conventions of various kinds the two began to make plans for Lette to procure an apartment in Port Platypus, since Lette decided she wanted to get out on her own as soon as she graduated and Port Platypus seemed as good a place to start as any. Lette is constantly in a state of motion, but this doesn't mean she doesn't want to preserve her memories. She has kept scrapbooks of various events and various points in her life since her parents first divorced. First appearance: Page 42, Fall to Earth

SILVERMore or less the villain of the story, he is bald, vain, and somewhat Hitleresque. Since he was a teenager, Silver has built up a force of minions and allies in order to act out his plans for Caligula (and beyond!) upon his ascension to the throne. He is ruthless, smart and disgustingly racist. He is not the only member of the royal family that has always held the firm belief that Blue's birth tainted the family line, but he is the only one who chose to do anything about it-- the obvious solution, to his mind, was to purge the entire family and start over. Since he was the only member of the family with any sort of vision, he was the only one who could carry Caligula into the future. He was willing, however, to wait until his father died of natural causes, because murdering the current ruler disqualifies a member of the family from elegibity for the throne. XD The escape of Blue and his siblings frustrates him no end, as Blue was the visible symptom of all the family's problems and thus was the one he most desired to eliminate. His priorities have changed slightly with the development of problems he had not forseen when first planning to remove the "boil of 2nd Kind" from the Caligulan population, but he continues to move ahead. He had people monitoring Blue the entire time Blue traveled Caligula, except when he was in Shangri, so as not to lose track of him when the time came to kill him. The official stance of the Caligulan government on the murder of most of the royal family is that 2nd Kind insurrectionists were responsible and that Blue somehow coerced or convinced Red, Green and Whitey to go along with it. SYNN(aka, that white haired guy that you don't think has appeared too much. ASJ.) Synn was originally little more than the son of a businessman living in Caligula's capital city (which, by the way, has been aptly named "Capitol." It probably had another name at some point, but it's such an old city that nobody bothers to remember that name anymore.) His mother left his father long before he had much memory of her, and his father tended not to be home, so he pretty much grew up in the streets of the city, outside the Caligulan royal palace. One day he met Blue, who had snuck off the palace grounds, and the two quickly became best friends. They went into adolesence like this, and then when Blue decided to run away from home, Synn went with him. They were both fourteen at the time. In Casta Bay, the two met Vanessa and Blue fell into a relationship with her. At the same time, Synn and Blue's relationship blurred from a close friendship to something Van could see as a threat, and so she devised a plan that ended in Synn's apparent death. In reality, Synn had been rescued by Silver's people, who had been monitoring Blue's activities. He was handed over to Doctor Dross and patched back together, although his looks have changed drastically, and he was put into military training, plus some indoctrination to foster any resentments at Blue for his role in the incedent which nearly killed him. Despite this the two continue to have very strong feelings for one another, although in comic this tends to be somewhat downplayed. First appearance (in full armor, unnamed, vision): Page 138, Far Side of Nowhere

DEXDex led a fairly normal life before meeting Green, if one can call regularly attending various conventions and being obsessed with transformers knockoffs "normal." (XD) He has one older sister and a nephew, and currently lives with his parents, though we see little of them. His sister's marital status is currently unknown. He grew up in Port Platypus, along with Casey, and the two have been friends since childhood. Dex's main interests in life involve fantasy and science fiction, although for whatever reason he has found himself the editor of the school paper-- a job he would enjoy if Robbie, sports columnist and theatrical critic, didn't so relish making him uncomfortable and getting the newspaper staff into trouble. He doesn't care for Lette, partly because she too likes to tease him, but also because they somehow managed to develop a slight rivalry for the attentions of their other friends. Lette has no problem with Dex, however. Dex, unfortunately, tends to be an easy target for this particular brand of teasing, and Lette and Robbie are hardly the only people who enjoy getting him riled up. Being friends with an alien is something like a dream come true for Dex, although he and Green would have definitely gotten along anyway. First appearance: Page 15, Fall to Earth

CASEYCasey grew up in Port Platypus and has always been friends with Dex as well as rivals with Max(f). Her relationship with Dex eventually deepened and matured without either saying anything to the other about it. She met Lette online originally, and the two eventually met at a convention, after which the two began to make plans for Lette to move into one of the apartments Casey's parents rent out after she graduated from college. Other than the fact that her parents rent apartments, little is known of the rest of Casey's family-- it is probable she is an only child. Casey tends to take the strange new developments in her life in stride, recognizing Green for what he was faster than Dex and even becoming excited about Dex's lens. It is possible her friendship with Lette prepared her for the stranger aspects of life. First appearance: Page 15, Fall to Earth

MAX(f)Obviously, Max(f) refers to the female Max, Max(m) refers to the male Max. They have no connections beyond their names, I just like the name Max a little too much. XD Max(f) is among the others in the cast who grew up in Port Platypus. She was always one of the "popular" girls, and for a long time was happy with that. Green struck her as wierd, although she accepted him (more or less) while Whitey and Violet came across as non-threatening, being several grades beneath her. She has had a long running rivalry with Casey that fizzled out sometime around the time she stopped caring as much about popularity. Max lives with either one or both of her parents (not quite certain on this one) and with a younger brother who has yet to appear. One of her hobbies is dating, mostly to tick her parents off, and she was rather shocked to realize that she couldn't be her same, confident self around a man like Blue-- she had unwittingly dumped herself into what she now thinks of as the "big leagues." Lette finds her mildly amusing, especially since she reminds her of girls Lette herself was infuriated with in High School. Max is of questionable ethnicity, a fact that makes her later friendship with Jel slightly problematic, on top of the problems Alicia has with her promiscuity. Among other things, Max may or may not be bisexual. She isn't telling. First dialogue: Page 94, Far Side of Nowhere First appearance: Page 95, Far Side of Nowhere

JELJel is not short for anything. Her brother Levi has a theory that their mother was looking at household products when choosing names-- this is not simply teasing his sister, however, since he has a similar theory about his own name involving jeans. Being the older of the town snoop's two children, as well as trapped in female school society and burdened with braces and not horribly attractive glasses, Jel did not have an easy childhood, and her main friend for some time was An, the young woman who lived in Teh House before Red and Rose bought it. Later, she befriends Blue, who has had friends with bigoted parents before and knows how hard it is on her. Her father was alchoholic and abusive, and died at some undetermined point in the past. Max(f) later decides to be friends with her. The reasons for this are unclear beyond the obvious fact that Max had wanted some insider information on Blue, but apparently the two bonded while talking and are now quite close. Beyond the alienation Jel feels due to other people not wanting to be around her, she has lately had to deal with a horrifying (to her) sexual confusion. She is terrified to talk to anyone or even sort of mention this problem, since if it were to get back to her mother she feels safe in the assumption she would be disowned.
