This is different from "Cultural Backgrounds" for several reasons: Culture =/= race (dhur), there are races that haven't appeared in the comic (and may never! ) and this'll have more about physical stuff and capabilities. But first, a nice little list (which may have additions later on as I go through old junk.) Just to note-- I will be wanting commentary on this thread in the open thread in this board. There will be important things I'll probably forget to mention. Not for story reasons, even-- I just DO that. Human Races: These races can all interbreed without difficulty, and basically count as the same species. For some weird reason. Terran/Earthlings Caligulans Wraithe Myranians Shades Sicans Chu'ogin Lisyur Feuri Non-Human Races: These guys show no evidence of "seeding," or rather, of some master race spreading them around as with the human races. They are usually very separate species. Some have spread out to other planets on their own, some have several subraces, like the Drakon. Drakon --Drakon'na --Drakon'ai --Drakon'ri --Drakon'ar --Drakon'siNekojin Blorbs Zosians (the "sia" is pronounced like in the word "Asia.") Trai Snakie Folke (XDDD) There may be more in either list, depending on whether I decide there will be later. It's not especially likely, though.

Note: I'm not bothering to outline "Terrans" yet. "Terrans" is us. Except that sometimes, in the Law of Purple, someone gets born with blue hair. Because blue hair rocks. So no, this won't necessarilly be in the order on the list.
[glow=red,2,300]Wraithe[/glow] Planet of Origin: Unknown, possibly Hedise as it is currently the center of the Avernian Collective, information inconclusive. Skin Tones: Range from very pale (not nearly white) to tan. Blue or gray in demonic form. Hair colors: Variants on white, green, purple, and pink. Almost always golden in demonic form, of varying shades or intensity. Eye colors: light blue or light green, red in demonic form. Notes of interest: Wraithe have slightly pointed, immobile ears that can usually be easily hidden by long hair. Full wraithe can take on a demonic form, in which their skin changes color, their hair begins to glow and their eyes begin to glow red. A wraithe's skin becomes metallic in this form and can repell laser and plasma fire, as well as most projectile weaponry. The fingernails morph into claws and the teeth become long and sharp. The wraithe can change at will, and needless to say, they are the most dangerous creatures among the races of the Avernian Collective.
Wraithe can also, while not in demonic form, transmit electricity through their skin. This is easier through thinner skin, and most prefer to "administer" shocks through mouth to mouth. Wraithe also heal faster than Terrans and can take far more punishment on average.
Wraithe who reach puberty virgins develop the ability to "see" flashes of insight, which through some experimentation have proven to be visions of the future. It is unclear what the connections between virginity and precognitive abilities are, and the visions usually come during altered states of consciousness.
(As Lette noted: only a few wraithe actually hit puberty as virgins. There are a variety of reasons for this, most of which belong in the cultural backgrounds thread.)

XD This one was somewhat outlined in the Cultural Backgrounds thread, but not as... um... clearly, I guess.
[glow=red,2,300]Myranians[/glow] Planet of Origin: Myrania. XD Skin Tones: Range from dark peach to very dark browns Hair colors: Blonde. Eye colors: Variants on browns and reds, can get as dark as black. Notes of interest: Myranian women are born with innate, powerful telepathic abilities, which give them access to another being's nervous system with skin-to-skin contact (rather like the telepathy of a Star Trek Vulcan, this usually only WORKS with such proximity). The men, while receptive, cannot transmit or manipulate as the women can, and thus are at their mates' mercy.
Most Myranian women are trained in their abilities so as to be able to use the "mem-twist," a dangerous skill in which the victim's memories are scrambled to the point of amnesiac trauma and the twister "reads" everything in the victim's mind. Recovery time ranges from a few weeks to several months, and repeated twisting, especially at a young age, can destroy personality althogether.
Men tend to be used for little more than studs and heavy lifting, and on average tend to be tall, handsome and muscular (thanks to the women selecting them mostly for looks and healthiness).
There is a small trade in Myranian slaves among the Avernian Collective, and owning a female Myranian is a sign of status (though most are nowhere near as skilled with their abilities as most free Myranians are). Female slaves are treated as pampered pets, while male Myranians are treated much the same offworld as they are on world. There are a few Myranian bounty hunters-- these women often dye their hair so as to disguise their abilities.

These guys... haven't appeared yet.
[glow=red,2,300]Chu'ogin[/glow] Planet of Origin: Chu'a Skin Tones: Ranges from very light to dark greens and blues, some yellows. Hair colors: Variants on green, blue and blonde. Eye colors: Variants on blue, yellow and green. Notes of interest: Chu'ogin eyes are slitted, like those of a little cat or some reptiles (in particular snakes.) Their teeth are slightly sharper than is normal for humaniod races.
The majority of the chu'ogin homeworld is slightly beyond current Earthen technological levels, and though they are aware of the "people out there" and have initiated trade with several peoples, they know little about the outsiders and outsiders know little about them. Some chu'ogin are xenophobic, while others are curious about new things to a degree some outsiders find suffocating and even frightening. Most, of course, are in between.

Funky, how'd I double post? XD Oh well, It's getting fixed now.
[glow=red,2,300]Shades[/glow] Planet of Origin: Geist Skin Tones: White to pale grey Hair colors: Dark blue to black Eye colors: Red to purple Notes of interest: Most Shades are violently allergic to molds that are very genetically similar to those used to culture yoghurt and certain cheeses on Earth. On Geist these are fairly rare, however a certain Shade now known as "Clarence the Evil" (I know, I know..) discovered that their cultivation could be used as biological warfare and subjugated large sections of the planet before Silver stepped in and killed him. Another common term for their race is "Shadowfolk. Shades are capable of concentrating static energy through their skin and concentrating it into a ball of energy, like ball-lightening, then throwing it. (This is why Brenna's gloves have no fingers.)

Found a name! ;D
[glow=red,2,300]Sican[/glow] Planet of Origin: Raliin (That's Rah-LEEN) Skin Tones: golds to dark browns Hair colors: White to black, brown and gold in between Eye colors: Blues and greens, rarely, purple. Notes of interest: Sican are currently mostly tribal. Like Myranians they live in a female dominated society, but because the women are generally taller and more muscular than the men.
Sican women possess an ability similar to that of the Wraithe changing, with minor differences in appearance, but it requires a certain mental state that they only aquire during battle. Also, it takes practice.
Sican gender rules tend to confuse outsiders.

Kitty! Yes, I got the name from Japanese. Woot. [glow=red,2,300] Nekojin[/glow] Planet of Origin: Gotehu Skin Tones: Not signifigant unless the individual shaves. Hair colors: Various patterns, ranging from Earth feline patterns to colors considered unnatural on Earth, including blues, greens, and purples. (basically, anything goes, including, if it struck my fancy, a green furred person with yellow stripes. ) Mane color usually differs from that of the body fur. Eye colors: Yellows, browns, greens, blues and purples, of varying shades and hues. Notes of interest: Nekojin are, in essence, cat people. They have long, pointed ears that, like the ears of 2nd Kind Caligulans, often broadcast emotion. They have five fingered hands and four-toed feet. Like a cat's, these feet are designed so that the Nekojin walks on its toes. There are short semi retractible claws in each finger and toe. Also, they have long furry tails, and slitted eyes. Unlike Earth cats, Nekojin have real lips, allowing for complex speech. They are omnivorous, although they tend to prefer starchy plants to leafy foods. Many Nekojin who are familiar with Earth are fond of Japanese cuisine, and many cultural parallels can also be found. There is actually a small Nekojin population on Earth, but most humans don't look closely enough to notice.

XDD How long did you think I was going to take to get to this one? [glow=red,2,300] Caligulans[/glow] Planet of Origin: Caligula (natch.) Skin Tones: Variants on white, blue, green, red, orange, purple and brown. (Gray is actually unusual.) Hair colors: Variants on black, blue, green, red, brown, blonde, and purple. (In this case orange counts as a variant.) Eye colors: Variants on blue, green, brown, purple, red and yellow. (Greys and blacks count as variants here.) Notes of interest: Only a few genetic markers determine differentiation in skin color, just as in Terran humans (we're just more differentiated because we haven't been able to look past that silliness yet.) Caligulans are slowly evolving pointed ears through random mutations. The ears are moveable, and those with pointed ears (properly called 2nd Kind, less properly refered to as things like elves, pointies, and so forth) often unconsciously use them to broadcast emotions. The mutation is a dominant gene. Caligulans are far more technologically advanced than Terrans, however are actually somewhat behind the Wraithe in colonization. They have strong trading ties to the Drakon. Some Caligulans are slightly telepathic or have other extrasensory perception, but cannot access their abilities consciously. (Which is why Blue gets all his happy little visions while asleep or meditating. ) It is more likely for 2nd Kind to have "ESP," which shows a link between the ear mutation and the mental abilities themselves.

XDD This was inspired by a Thermos of Silly Putty!
[glow=red,2,300]Blorb[/glow] Planet of Origin: Unknown, probably one of the Avernian Worlds. Skin Tones: Peach to dark browns Hair colors: Not applicable. Eye colors: Blues and browns. (XD) Notes of interest: A blorb is basically an amorphous pile of flesh with a pair of eyes. They reproduce through budding or by being torn to pieces. XD Occassionally two blorbs will combine their genetic material to keep variety going. The "child" blorb possesses most to none of the memories of the adult, depending on its method of "birth," although no matter the circumstances the youthful blorb has sufficent programming to survive on its own.
It's unclear where blorbs keep their intellegence, although their eyes and other identifiable organs are formed through manipulation of their regular flesh.
Blorbs tend to be very happy-go-lucky creatures, being that not much can harm them and they can pull nutrients from almost anything to survive.
Blorbs have actually been represented in the comic-- look in page 88 or page 108 in Man of Power part 1.

Bweh. Xd
[glow=red,2,300]Drakon[/glow] Planet of Origin: It is not entirely clear which of the worlds in the Drakoni system the Drakon first hailed from, as they are an old people. Skin Tones: Blues, reds, greens, golds. Hair colors: (this also covers fin, horn and ridge colors) Purples, greens, reds, bronze Eye colors: Blue, green, purple, red, yellow Notes of interest: There are five distinct races of Drakon, which interbreed without difficulty but which may be slowly splitting into five different species. (Like evolution in LOP makes any sense.) Over all, the Drakon people are known by their saurian head-shapes, large, muscular and upright bodies, long flexible tails, and clawed hands and feet. They have five fingered hands and five toed feet. Depending on the race, they may have "hair," although the material is closer to feathers.
Drakon races are as follows:
[glow=red,2,300]Drakon'na:[/glow] Distinguished by two curved horns on either side of the head. Represented in the comic by Torque, Red's buddy from the wardobe.
[glow=red,2,300]Drakon'ai:[/glow] Distinguished by a hairlike ridge running down the middle of the head, like a mohawk. Represented in the comic by Wulfweardsweorth. (Yes, that little dude Lynnah's been dragging around.) As well as by a random person sitting on Torque's couch.
[glow=red,2,300]Drakon'ri:[/glow] Distinguished by a scaly ridge down the head, rather like the backplates of a stegosaur. Not represented by ANYWUN. Yet.
[glow=red,2,300]Drakon'ar:[/glow] Distinguished by a membranous frill on the head, which is made up of bone and skin stretched between the spines. Also not yet represented in the comic.
[glow=red,2,300]Drakon'si:[/glow] Distinguished by two backward pointing horns on either side of the head, and what resembles a human head of hair. (Again, it's feathers. Really.)
I'll put some pictures in this section eventually, I swear.

XD I had to do this one, just to be fair. Bwaha.
[glow=red,2,300]Terrans/Earthlings[/glow] Planet of Origin: Earth. XDD Skin Tones: From a very light, pinkish peach to a very dark brown. Hair colors: Variants on blonde, brown, black, red, blue (because I said so) Eye colors: Variants on blue, green, hazel, brown and (very rarely) purple. Notes of interest: What separates Terrans from Earthlings is mere knowledge; a Terran has spent significant time off Earth or in contact with outside cultures, or may even have been born off Earth or be living off Earth, whereas an Earthling is usually totally unaware of the possibility (until they get abducted. Hee.)

These guys are represented in the comic by that blue thing with pink hair and the grin sitting on Torque's couch. Her name is Marie, by the by. XD
[glow=red,2,300]Zosians[/glow] Planet of Origin: Zosia Skin Tones: Variants of green to blue, and in between. Hair colors: Variants on very light pink to very dark purple. Eye colors: Variants on green, blue, red, and purple. Notes of interest: Zosians are paramammals (reptiles with mammilian features) with very smooth, lightly scaled skin, hair, sharp teeth and clawed fingers and toes. Their hands have five fingers each, their feet are four-toed but otherwise constructed like a human foot. (Except for the claws, of course.) The area of the eye which is, for humans, white, is yellow for Zosians. The face does not have a clearly defined nose, and Zosians have long, flexible ears which often aid in expression. Zosian body language is rather different from human body language in that some gestures we might consider friendly are threatening or defensive when used by a Zosian. (A toothy smile, for example-- since their teeth are so sharp they make fairly sufficient weapons.)
Zosians are carniverous. They bear their young in soft, leathery eggs, although it shall be noted that they have an analogue to the full mammilian bellybutton. (It's not really a belly button in the same sense, but it looks like one. XD) They produce milk, although like many sentient milk bearers it's up to the individual whether or not they nurse. Infants have no teeth (let's spare the moms, right?) and use their claws to tear free of the egg. Many Zosians are slightly squeamish about watching hatching. XD (Although responsible expectant mothers tend to keep their eggs with them.) Generally Zosians heal at similar rates to Terran humans.
Zosians are generally found among the Avernian collective worlds, although they do wander out in small numbers. No one but a wraithe would dare enslave one, and even wraithes are cautious of the thought (you can't stay awake all the time) and so they are one of the few races that is not traded in that particular manner. (That doesn't mean less scrupulous Zosians aren't involved in it as slavers, naturally (and unfortunately.)) There are also quite a few Zosian bounty hunters, as they are a sturdy people and natural hunters.

These guys aren't in the comic. Yet. But when they do appear, it may be in a flashback or sidestory, as they aren't particularly prone to wandering around on their own.
[glow=red,2,300]Trai[/glow] Planet of Origin: Ridpath Skin Tones: Dark blue, gold, green, red, or white. (All Trai within a colony, not counting breeders, tend to be the same skin color.) Hair colors: Blonde, black, copper, green, red, white, and blue. Eye colors: Black, yellow, blue and green. Notes of interest: The Trai are semi-hive minded, in that they have some personality but are completely and selflessly devoted to the good of the colony. Despite being very insectlike in appearance and behavior, they are actually reptiles. (Invertabrates can't get to human size, they'd crush.)
The most intellegent and individualistic member of a Trai colony is its sole adult male, followed by a constantly pregnant harem of females, and filtering down through the different castes (which, technically, are all considered different sexes despite that only two are reproducing ones) until the caste in charge of waste removal is reached. The male, sometimes referred to by lesser castes as Father, fertilizes the females from time to time to ensure that they constantly produce eggs, and oversees all other members of the colony to ensure that the "organism" is operating smoothly. When dealing with non-Trai, the Father is the only intelligence within the colony that dealing with will produce any results.
Sex of an individual Trai is determined by three things: genes, the temperature at which the Trai's egg was kept at, and what it is fed while in "larval" stage. Genetically male and female eggs are significantly different in appearance, and a certain number are sorted out to be kept at warmer temperature, to produce reproductive offspring. Breeders spend more years in each stage, because their larger brains need more development.
Usually Trai go about naked, but in deference to Ebony Black, governor of Ridpath, the breeders of the colonies she has to deal with wear loinclothes when dealing with her or any of her guests. XD
Also, in different areas throughout the planet, the different Fathers send their sons and daughters (of a certain age) once a year to specified meeting points to collect or be collected and to hopefully start new colonies or to renew old ones. A Father will usually appoint a certain son to continue his work when he can no longer continue in full capacity.
Within their own colony, Trai communicate with signals transmitted by fleshy anntenae beneath their eyes. Spoken communication is reserved for interaction between colonies and with non-Trai. Colonies occasionally clash, but never over breeders, only territory and the resources in it. Mate-meets are generally peaceful.

I like these guys. XD
[glow=red,2,300]Feuri[/glow] Planet of Origin: Abetzi Skin Tones: White Hair colors: White Eye colors: Black (pink or grey when their pupils aren't dilated) Notes of interest: Feuri are tall, thin humanoids with large eyes. They are a race of albinos, due to the fact that their native world is locked in a constant lunar eclipse with a particularly large moon, which blocks out much of the light from their sun.
Off Abetzi they normally wear very heavy cloaks and eye protection. Feuri away from home are rare, but not unusual. (One shows up in the comic, actually, playing cards with Torque.)

I used to randomly draw people fitting the description of the Lisyur all the time, just because I felt like it. Some of them interacted with early incarnations of the LOP characters, so I incorporated them.
[glow=red,2,300]Lisyur[/glow] Planet of Origin: Krelis Skin Tones: Pinks to dark blues, although usually covered in light fur ranging from white, gray, light blues, light greens and tan. Hair colors: Dark blue, black or purples. Eye colors: Yellows and greens. Notes of interest: While Lisyur are a human race, they are probably the least human looking among them. They have sharper incisors and long, gracefully pointed ears, as well as naturally sharp fingernails that resemble claws, and are covered in a thick, short, fine fur, excepting certain places, which on the face means the lips and nose. The palms of the hands and soles of the feet are also bare.
Most Lisyur have a special affinity for what makes things grow, and thus they are natural farmers and animal caretakers. They are minor empaths, able to sense lower emotions and physical wants and needs.
There is a stereotype floating the spaceways that holds that Lisyur make better lovers. Obviously, this has not exactly been submitted to scientific study. XD
